Since joining Alvarez & Marsal in 2021 as both a managing director and partner at A&MPLIFY, Mr. Lawless has led efforts to establish the practice as a core component of the firm’s offerings. Before his current work at his firm, Mr. Lawless served as a managing director and design lead at Accenture Interactive from 2017 to 2020. In this capacity, he co-founded the growth strategy practice and played a pivotal role in shaping digital experiences for global clients. Between 2015 and 2017, he was the managing director and digital studio lead at Accenture Federal Services, where he oversaw innovation initiatives for federal agencies. Mr. Lawless previously spent five years as a senior manager in insights and strategy at Accenture, starting in 2010.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Lawless was an international marketing director at SunEdison from 2008 to 2009. He also held progressive roles at AOL and Coca-Cola North America, dating back to 1989. Throughout his career journey, Mr. Lawless has worked with a diverse portfolio of leading organizations such as Sprint, Audi, Phillips 66, Exxon Mobil and Chevron, among many others. His expertise encompasses business-to-consumer and business-to-business marketing strategies, brand development, design thinking, product development and digital strategy, as well as many other areas of the field.

Mr. Lawless’ academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. The analytical rigor acquired during these formative years provided a solid foundation for his subsequent achievements across multiple sectors. Mr. Lawless also became actively engaged with esteemed honor societies, including the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society for business excellence, Phi Pi Theta, the Pi Alpha Theta history honor society and the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity.

Beyond his corporate accomplishments, Mr. Lawless has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to civic engagement and mentorship. For more than a decade, he has been involved with The Cappies of the National Capital Area, a program celebrating excellence in high school theater, serving as a board member from 2019 to 2025 after mentoring students between 2015 and 2019. Through this initiative, Mr. Lawless helped nurture creativity among thousands of young people while supporting student critics who review peer performances for publication or recognition at annual awards ceremonies.

Mr. Lawless’ reputation as a change agent is bolstered by his ability to build high-performing teams tasked with managing profit-and-loss responsibilities for new ventures or introducing transformative products and services. Well-known for his expertise, he has delivered presentations on artificial intelligence’s impact on supply chain efficiencies within supplier diversity organizations in Houston, Texas, and addressed global conferences on renewable energy practices as well as data monetization strategies.

In recognition of his instructional excellence while at Accenture Interactive, Mr. Lawless received the Top Faculty Award in 2018, an acknowledgment of his impact on talent development within one of the world’s foremost consulting firms. Reflecting on his career, he credits much of his success to intellectual curiosity paired with humility, traits that have guided him through evolving industry landscapes since the late 1990s.
