Stephen Garza, Strategic Solutions Consultant at Advanced Health Education Center (AHEC), has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in Healthcare Staffing.
With more than three decades of experience in the healthcare staffing industry, Mr. Garza has established himself as an expert in his field. His career is distinguished by a commitment to building enduring relationships with hospital systems and their leadership teams. Mr. Garza is most proud of being a trusted resource whom hospital directors and managers rely on for guidance with staffing and operational challenges. These long-term connections have served as the foundation of his professional success and impact.
Since 2024, Mr. Garza has served as a strategic solutions consultant at the AHEC. In this role, he consults with hospitals and educational institutions regarding cross-training programs, identifies departmental pain points and promotes educational initiatives designed to reduce reliance on temporary staffing. He also teaches 40-hour computed tomography cross-training courses for X-ray technicians and coordinates ultrasound and mammography training programs. Mr. Garza’s work supports rural hospitals by providing affordable education options that allow existing staff to expand their skill sets, ultimately benefiting both employees and healthcare facilities.
Before joining the AHEC, Mr. Garza was a consultant at Four Winds Staffing from 2023 to 2024, where he focused on enhancing the radiology sector and training nursing recruiters in allied health staffing. His efforts were directed toward strengthening the company’s recruiting capabilities and supporting the professional development of healthcare workers.
From 1994 to 2023, Mr. Garza played a pivotal role at DiagnosTemps Radiology Staffing Agency, where he led the national travel staffing division. He began his journey with DiagnosTemps when it was a newly established company serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Under Mr. Garza’s leadership, the company expanded its reach across multiple states, including Colorado, Utah, California, New Mexico and Arizona, among others. The organization’s revenue grew from approximately $2.5 million in its early years to more than $21 million by the time of his departure. Mr. Garza attributes this growth to a strong reputation for quality service and dedicated employees.
Before entering the healthcare staffing field, Mr. Garza spent about five years as a funeral director and embalmer in East Texas after earning an associate degree in mortuary science from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 1989. His background in mortuary science sparked his interest in healthcare’s scientific aspects and influenced his decision to transition into radiology staffing in 1994. Mr. Garza also completed coursework at East Texas State University, now Texas A&M University-Commerce, further broadening his academic foundation.
Throughout his career, Mr. Garza has learned that genuine listening is essential for success as a recruiter. By focusing on understanding each client’s unique needs rather than overselling services or pushing predetermined solutions, he has fostered trust and built lasting professional relationships. This approach has enabled Mr. Garza to support clients ranging from large urban hospitals to small rural facilities by offering tailored solutions, whether through temporary or permanent staffing or educational resources, that help retain staff and address organizational challenges.
Mr. Garza’s expertise is further demonstrated by his ability to educate potential candidates about opportunities in less conventional locations, such as Alaska or Guam, helping them appreciate both the professional benefits and personal growth these assignments can offer. He frequently visits schools to speak with graduates from imaging programs but prefers direct engagement over podcasts or virtual platforms.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Garza is committed to civic engagement and philanthropy within his community. He volunteers at local pantries and soup kitchens during Thanksgiving and is a regular donor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Each Christmas season, Mr. Garza donates 25 bicycles to underprivileged children of military parents, a tradition that reflects his dedication to giving back.
Mr. Garza’s contributions have been recognized through several industry accolades, including recognition among the Top 100 Companies for Fort Worth in 2019 and a Blue Ribbon Award for Staffing Agency Excellence from DiagnosTemps Radiology Staffing Agency in 2020. He credits resilience and an unwavering belief in the value of his work as key factors behind his enduring success in healthcare staffing.
Looking ahead, Mr. Garza intends to continue supporting new professionals entering radiology by helping them explore various specialization options, including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging or mammography. He also remains dedicated to informing healthcare workers about educational programs available through the AHEC that can advance their careers while assisting hospitals, particularly those in underserved rural areas, in reducing reliance on costly temporary staffing through cross-training initiatives.
