Laurence A. Humphries, MBA, president at The Wellness Development Group LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering and entrepreneurship.
With nearly two and a half decades of experience, Mr. Humphries has established a successful career in engineering and entrepreneurship. He currently serves as president and chief executive officer of The Wellness Development Group LLC, a role he has held since 2022, and as franchise owner of VIO Med Spa and founder and investor of Trailblazers Legacy Film and Productions LLC, both established in 2023. At VIO Med Spa, he oversees financial operations, accounting, and inventory management, ensuring the smooth functioning of all back-office processes. The company provides a wide range of skin rejuvenation services utilizing advanced technology, including the Morpheus 80 for effective treatments and the Emsculpt NEO for body contouring with impressive results.
Mr. Humphries’ experience also includes serving as senior principal analyst for strategy and business performance at Chevron in the Middle East from 2020 to 2022, strategy and planning coordinator for Chevron’s Latin America upstream strategic business unit from 2012 to 2014, and commercial manager for Africa and Latin America in Chevron’s LNG marketing and trading division from 2006 to 2008. He also held the role of regional coordinator and advisor to the vice president for West Africa marketing and chairman and managing director of Texaco Nigeria PLC in 2002 and executive business analyst for Chevron on a global scale from 2000 to 2002. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in marketing from Morehouse College in 1993 and a Master of Business Administration in finance from Clark Atlanta University in 2000. He also dedicates his time to various organization, serving as vice chair of the development committee for the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Foundation, Inc., since 2013, and as treasurer of Silence the Shame Inc., a global organization.
Reflecting on his path, When he decided to retire early from Chevron, he and his wife sought a venture that would provide them with greater freedom while leveraging their skills and interests. After careful consideration, they decided to explore the medspa industry. Recognizing the industry’s growth potential, he also evaluated a franchise option with Vida Medspa, and he and his wife decided this was a sound investment. He attributes his success to an unwavering passion and determination, qualities deeply rooted in his father’s belief in the transformative power of education. His perspective was further shaped by interactions with civil rights leaders such as Dr. Leon Sullivan, Benjamin Hooks, and Andrew Young, as well as his participation in the Sullivan African and African American Summits.
Looking ahead, Mr. Humphries envisions building a diverse portfolio of enterprises, including establishing a niche film company, Trailblazers Legacy Film and Productions. This venture aims to tell the untold stories of civil rights heroes and the leaders who have dedicated their lives to preserving Historically Black Colleges and Universities. In addition, he is committed to mentoring the next generation of leaders and supporting nonprofit organizations that focus on mental health. He is also determined to leverage his expertise to address some of the most pressing global challenges, including the impact of artificial intelligence, climate change, and evolving political landscapes.
