Mr. Garza has led a distinguished career in construction for over 20 years, culminating in his current role as the general superintendent at Alliance Development and Services in San Diego, a position he has held since 2022. Excelling in construction site management and contractor supervision, his role has been instrumental in the organization’s success.
Among a myriad of responsibilities, Mr. Garza oversees two separate projects simultaneously, with assistant superintendents each working alongside him. As such, he is tasked with reviewing and maintaining the schedules for both projects, coordinating and scheduling all subcontractors and overseeing daily tasks. Mr. Garza also oversees daily operations, ensuring that safety protocols are followed. Moreover, he reviews and approves invoices, change orders and billing for contract compliance, processes bulletins from architects, implements necessary changes and distributes information to subcontractors to ensure the successful completion of all work.
Before joining Alliance Development and Services, Mr. Garza was the superintendent at Bosa Development California, a Canadian real estate development company, from 2019 to 2022. He also succeeded as a project manager at Oakwood Communities in Irvine, California, between 2014 and 2019, at JG Construction Management in San Diego from 2011 to 2014, at Romero General Construction in Escondido, California, between 2008 and 2011, and at Highland Partnership from 2005 to 2008.
Mr. Garza began learning about the industry from his father while coming of age, who owned a remodeling company. Every summer during his elementary school years, his father exposed him to all aspects of the trade, which is how he initially developed an affinity and expertise for the work. Since that time, Mr. Garza has earned a distinguished career in the field, progressing from home renovations to working on restaurants and extensive commercial building projects. He also garnered extensive success working on public works, multi-family and high-rise developments.
A rewarding career, Mr. Garza particularly enjoys collaborating with cities and engineering departments, which is one of the most challenging aspects of his role but is also equally fulfilling once the jobs are complete. Among his most notable projects was the Wagon Wheel project in Oxnard, California, which he worked on during his tenure at Oakwood Communities. The project featured a six-story parking structure at its center, surrounded on three sides by six-story apartment buildings comprising 617 units. He was also pivotal in the Diego project while employed by Bosa Development California, which comprised high-rise buildings in downtown San Diego. This project was particularly significant, as it included a total of 605 units with a total budget of $250 million.
In recognition of his success, Mr. Garza received a Gold Nugget Award in 2008 and an Award of Recommendation from the Pala Indian Reservation in 2010. He attributes his success to the values instilled in him by his father during his childhood, who consistently emphasized the importance of doing whatever it takes to complete a job, working as long as necessary to ensure it is done correctly and with precision.
In the coming years, Mr. Garza aims to continue growing his reputation in San Diego, demonstrating that quality building can be achieved by those who genuinely care about excellence and are rooted in the community.
