Paul Barrera, Southeast Division Manager at Pan-Pacific Mechanical, has been recognized by Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in the construction and plumbing system design services industry.

Mr. Barrera’s distinguished, decades-spanning career has been marked by a series of progressive leadership roles and entrepreneurial ventures. In his current capacity as the southeast division manager at Pan-Pacific Mechanical since 2026, he oversees business development, bidding processes, union signatory matters and daily operational setup. He is also responsible for establishing new divisions, creating relationships within the industry and supporting ongoing expansion efforts. Moreover, Mr. Barrera’s commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture and supporting employee growth remains central to his professional philosophy.

Since 2025, Mr. Barrera has also found success as the owner of PMB Mechanical Inc., a company he originally established in Boston in 1999. After operating the business for nearly a decade, he paused operations following a personal transition and later revived the company upon relocating to Tennessee. Under his leadership, PMB Mechanical Inc. has achieved significant milestones, including generating $500 million in annual revenue with projections to reach $1 billion within two years. The aforementioned company is signatory to the union and maintains affiliations with Local 12 in Boston. In addition to these accomplishments, Mr. Barrera is actively pursuing minority-owned business certification for one of his companies, reflecting his dedication to diversity and inclusion within the industry.

From 2023 to 2025, Mr. Barrera was active as the director of plumbing operations at Icon Mechanical. During this period, he was instrumental in managing large-scale projects and further refining his expertise in mechanical contracting. Mr. Barrera’s tenure at Icon Mechanical was preceded by a project management position at Pan-Pacific Mechanical from 2022 to 2023, where he contributed to the company’s ongoing growth and operational excellence.

Between 2011 and 2022, Mr. Barrera excelled as project manager at Murray Company Mechanical Contractors in California. This post enabled him to collaborate on joint ventures with Pan-Pacific Mechanical and oversee complex construction initiatives across the region. Earlier in his career, he worked as president of PMB Mechanical during its initial operation in Boston from 2001 to 2009.

Mr. Barrera embarked upon his professional path after high school when he aspired to become an FBI agent while attending community college. To support his ambitions, he accepted a position offered by his uncle’s construction company superintendent. Initially tasked with digging ditches for plumbers on job sites, he soon formed a pivotal connection with Lance Lutrell of Lance Lutrell Plumbing. Accepting an offer from Mr. Lutrell years later, Mr. Barrera spent over five years learning the foundational skills that would shape his future in plumbing and mechanical contracting.

Over the years, Mr. Barrera has managed approximately 1,000 employees and overseen projects valued at more than $100 million. Notable achievements to his credit include his involvement in high-profile design-build projects such as Google’s campus in Playa Vista and the four-year Landmark 2 Tower project in West Los Angeles, the largest tower in South or West Los Angeles, which required innovative graywater collection systems for cooling towers.

A testament to his professional versatility, Mr. Barrera holds several key certifications, including as a commercial plumbing contractor from the State of Tennessee, a plumbing system designer from University of California Los Angeles Extension Gayley Center, a licensed journeyman from the City of Los Angeles, and a journeyman with UA Local 12. He also holds a master plumber license and has been previously certified by the Massachusetts State of Minority Business Association, with which he has maintained a longstanding involvement. Likewise, Mr. Barrera is a member of organizations such as the American Society of Plumbing Engineers and a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity International.

Outside of his primary responsibilities, Mr. Barrera enjoys spending time with his children, including coaching baseball with his youngest son. He also plays basketball and maintains his family’s home on eleven acres of land. He values these moments as essential parts of a balanced life.

Mr. Barrera attributes much of his success to his hard work, perseverance, and his fear of failure, which has served as a powerful motivator throughout his journey. Looking toward the future, he aims to expand Pan-Pacific Mechanical’s Southeast division while continuing to grow both companies under his leadership. Prioritizing training of the next generation within his field, Mr. Barrera emphasizes the importance of creating a supportive environment where employees can thrive and believes that happiness at work is vital given the inherent challenges of their industry.
