Brent R. Jones, Deputy Commander at the International Association of Fire Fighters and Commander at Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Honor Guard, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Public Service and Safety.

Mr. Jones has established an honorable career spanning three decades in firefighting, emergency medical services and honor guard leadership. Since 2014, he has excelled as the deputy commander with the International Association of Fire Fighters in Colorado. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the organization serves as the labor union for firefighters and emergency medical workers in the United States and Canada.

In this position, Mr. Jones has played a pivotal role in revitalizing the International Association of Fire Fighters Fall Firefighter Memorial ceremony in Colorado Springs by designing new ceremonial movements and protocols to honor fallen firefighters. Notably, this effort has impacted an annual audience of approximately 1,100 to 1,500 honor guard members and as many as 10,000 family members and department representatives.

Additionally, Mr. Jones has served as the commander of the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Honor Guard since 2015, where he leads operations for Honor Guard Clinics and Schools Inc., coordinates and executes the annual International Association of Fire Fighters Fall Firefighter Memorial, and responds to multiple line-of-duty death incidents to assist with mass memorials and funeral services.

The Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Honor Guard is a nonprofit organization that serves as an essential part of the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation. The organization that honors fallen firefighters and assists departments and locals in times of need. The Honor Guard comprises active and retired members from across more than 60 locals in over 100 communities throughout the state.

Among other responsibilities, Mr. Jones manages instructor recruitment and training initiatives, oversees fundraising and sponsorship efforts for the nonprofit organization and develops peer support and mental health components within honor guard training programs. His expertise in teaching honor guard classes to first responders has contributed significantly to the professional development of countless individuals across the United States and Canada.

From 1999 to 2023, Mr. Jones served as a fire lieutenant with the Milwaukee Fire Department. During his tenure, he made significant contributions, including establishing a comprehensive mass disaster plan for Milwaukee, shaped by lessons learned from the Joplin, Missouri, tornado. Mr. Jones also redesigned vehicle response districting for engine and ladder companies. Moreover, he was instrumental in developing the mutual aid box alarm system, transforming previously isolated operations into an integrated network with surrounding suburban departments. As an instructor at the fire academy from 2015 to 2016, Mr. Jones provided essential training to recruits.

Mr. Jones was the founder and commander of the Wisconsin Fire & EMS Memorial between 2014 and 2018, where he led efforts to honor fallen first responders statewide. He also owned Critical Second Pty Ltd from 2001 to 2012, where he spent over a decade broadening his experience in emergency response management.

Among his earlier titles, Mr. Jones’s background included service as an operations manager, armed security agent and private investigator with Tri-Bolt Defense, and he worked in retail in loss prevention and loss control. Additionally, he excelled as the commander of the Milwaukee Fire Department Honor Guard in 2004 after joining the unit in late 2000. Mr. Jones began his public safety journey as a volunteer firefighter with the Oregon Area Fire and EMS.

Mr. Jones’s professional foundation was shaped by his service in the U.S. Marine Corps immediately following high school graduation. The discipline, training in drills and ceremonies, and commitment to continual improvement gained during his military service have been central to his effectiveness in honor guard work and leadership roles throughout his career.

Mr. Jones’s educational background includes a diploma from Sheboygan Falls High School through the School District of Sheboygan Falls in Wisconsin in 1992. He previously held certification as a private investigator from the Department of Safety and Professional Services, State of Wisconsin, from 2024 to 2025.

Active professionally, Mr. Jones maintains membership with the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin and the International Association of Fire Fighters. Throughout his career, he has founded or been actively involved with several civic organizations, including Honor Guard Clinics and Schools Inc., which he established in 2005 as a modest fundraiser that evolved into a comprehensive training organization serving first responders across North America with divisions in Salt Lake City, Boston, Miami and Edmonton, Alberta. Mr. Jones also remains associated with the Eric Marsh Foundation.

As an expert in firefighting and emergency medical services, Mr. Jones has been recognized through numerous awards, such as the Legion of Merit, Spirit of the Honor Guard Award, Tunnel to Towers Community Service Award, Firefighter of the Year Award from International Fire Buffs Associates, and the FBI Citizens Academy Unsung Heroes Award, among others. The influence of his family legacy has been a factor in his success. Notably, his father’s service as a U.S. Marine Corps drill instructor during Vietnam, followed by more than 30 years as a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper, deeply affected his approach to honor guard instruction and community leadership.

Looking ahead, Mr. Jones envisions Honor Guard Clinics and Schools Inc. becoming fully funded and positioned for expansion with increased training opportunities for younger professionals entering police, fire and emergency medical services careers. He aims to ensure that programs in Salt Lake City, Boston, Miami and Edmonton operate at full capacity while continuing instruction in funeral planning, family care, ceremonial movements, flag folding and proper casket carrying. Mr. Jones’s goal is to eventually pass leadership of Honor Guard Clinics and Schools Inc. to a new generation of instructors so that traditions honoring police officers, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel who die in the line of duty are preserved while supporting their families into the future.
