Robert “Reed” Donahoe, Vice President of Safety at Ramaco Resources Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Coal Mining Safety and Administration.

Mr. Donahoe’s long and successful career in the coal mining industry spans more than 45 years, marked by a steady ascent from entry-level positions to executive leadership. Since 2025, he has served as the vice president of safety at Ramaco Resources Inc. in Man, West Virginia, where he oversees the entire safety department, which consists of 10 employees. In this capacity, Mr. Donahoe interacts with state and federal agencies, initiates additional safety programs, conducts training for all company employees and addresses issues related to mine conditions. His hands-on experience and deep understanding of the challenges faced by coal miners have enabled him to implement effective safety protocols and foster a culture of vigilance throughout the organization.

Before being named vice president, Mr. Donahoe excelled as the superintendent at Ramaco Resources Inc. from 2017 to 2025. During this period, he managed the financial aspects of mining operations and ensured compliance with rigorous safety standards. Mr. Donahoe’s leadership contributed significantly to the company’s growth, expanding from just a little over 20 employees when he joined to approximately 1,000 today.

Recruited from Alpha Natural Resources, Mr. Donahoe spent 2016 and 2017 as a superintendent for the organization in Iaeger, West Virginia. He was responsible for overseeing daily operations and maintaining high standards of productivity and safety. Between 2012 and 2016, Mr. Donahoe held the same title at a super-section coal mine, Lower War Eagle, for Alpha Natural Resources, also in Iaeger, where he directed mining activities and implemented operational improvements.

Mr. Donahoe’s earlier tenure as a superintendent at Massey Energy’s Double Diamond Mine, which was recognized as a coal extractor in the U.S. with substantial operations in West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia, and bought by its competitor, Alpha Natural Resources, in 2011, saw him managing complex mining projects and leading teams through challenging conditions for over five years, starting in 2007. Earlier, he advanced through several roles at Massey Energy during a 10-year period, between 1997 and 2007, including equipment operator, section foreman and mine foreman, gaining comprehensive knowledge of underground mining operations.

During his foundational years in the industry, Mr. Donahoe worked for U.S. Steel/Old Ben Coal in Thacker, West Virginia, for nearly two decades. Hired in 1979, he began as an equipment operator. He entered the field as a “red hat,” spending his first six months learning safety protocols and mastering the intricacies of coal mining before progressing through increasingly responsible positions.

Mr. Donahoe is an active member of several industry organizations, including the Home Safety Association, the National Mining Association and the Tug Valley Mining Institute. These affiliations reflect his dedication to advancing best practices within the mining sector. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Donahoe has contributed to his community through volunteer work in foster care fundraising initiatives as well as environmental efforts, such as community cleanups.

Throughout his career, Mr. Donahoe has been recognized for his commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence. He is particularly proud of managing coal mines that have earned multiple safety awards under his leadership. Notably, Mr. Donahoe’s team spent two days at a conference accepting safety awards for four separate operations, a testament to his direct involvement in fostering safe work environments and preventing injuries or fatalities. In recognition of his impact on the industry, he was inducted into the Logan Coal Mining Hall of Fame in 2025.

Mr. Donahoe’s professional journey is underscored by a strong work ethic and a belief in hard work and dedication. He credits his achievements to meticulous attention to detail, effective organizational skills and a commitment to doing things correctly rather than seeking perfection. Mr. Donahoe has drawn inspiration from colleagues throughout his career, learning not only from their successes but also from their mistakes, and he emphasizes the importance of attentiveness and adaptability in professional growth. He values fairness above all else, striving always to treat everyone equally without favoritism and upholding integrity in all decisions.

Looking ahead, Mr. Donahoe intends to continue working in safety while supporting his wife’s ongoing career. He hopes that his legacy will be defined by impartiality, dedication and an unwavering commitment to ensuring safe workplaces for all those who follow in his footsteps within the coal mining industry.
