With a career spanning nearly 30 years, Mr. Cohen has made significant contributions to the field of technology, particularly in cybersecurity. Over a decade ago, he became an executive advisor for cybersecurity, governance, risk management, compliance, and privacy at Genesys in Raleigh, North Carolina. In this capacity, he advised teams across privacy, cybersecurity and compliance while mentoring security professionals and conducting research in emerging security technologies. Headquartered in California, Genesys is a software development company that specializes in cloud, digital and artificial intelligence technology.
Before his work at Genesys, Mr. Cohen’s professional trajectory included pivotal roles such as senior manager of information security at Allscripts (now Veradigm LLC) from 2012 to 2013 and as a global account security manager at CSC in 2012. He also excelled as a data center federal manager at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security between 2007 and 2011, while simultaneously serving as the chief information security officer at General Dynamics Information Technology from 2007 to 2009.
Among his earlier positions, Mr. Cohen worked for RTI International as a manager of ITS information security, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as an information technologist specialist, and Branch Banking and Trust (now Truist) as a senior network security engineer. He began his career at Hudd Distribution as an information technology manager in 1996.
Mr. Cohen’s journey began after honorably serving 20 years in the U.S. Navy on fast-attack submarines, where he honed his skills in mission focus and operational excellence. This military background provided him with a unique perspective on security and discipline that he carried into his civilian career.
In preparation for his future, Mr. Cohen received a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and education from Ashford University in 2010. This academic foundation has supported his ability to communicate complex cybersecurity concepts effectively. Mr. Cohen’s commitment to professional development is further evidenced by his extensive list of credentials, including a certified information systems security professional from ISC2 and a certified information privacy technologist from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). He also received numerous certifications from OneTrust LLC, Securiti and other institutions, which have kept him abreast of the latest developments in technology risk and compliance.
Throughout his career, Mr. Cohen has been involved with several industry-related organizations, such as InfraGard National Members Alliance Inc., ISC2 Inc. and the Information Systems Security Association International. He also serves on the advisory board of the IAPP and was elected as a fellow of information privacy. Civically, Mr. Cohen is affiliated with the National Eagle Scout Association and the OWASP Foundation Inc.
In recognition of his contributions to his country, Mr. Cohen received a Commendation Medal from the U.S. Navy. Looking ahead, he plans to retire soon but intends to continue mentoring aspiring cybersecurity professionals and possibly return to teaching. Mr. Cohen’s dedication to knowledge transfer underscores his lifelong commitment to developing the next generation of experts in the field.
