Mr. Tamayo’s career in the business sector spans more than two decades and is marked by significant milestones and a commitment to advancing organizational excellence. Since 2026, he has served as the sole board member for Addiuva Enterprises, a multinational holding company with affiliates throughout Latin America, Spain and Egypt. In his current capacity, he aligns board interests with those of shareholders, the chief executive officer and key stakeholders. Mr. Tamayo’s responsibilities include facilitating communication to ensure the execution of board decisions, conducting regular meetings at both board and stakeholder levels, and monitoring the implementation of resolutions. He also manages legal documents for the holding and group companies, reviews critical legal and commercial agreements, and supports mergers and acquisitions through document analysis and stakeholder coordination. Preparing board notices, drafting resolutions and maintaining statutory legal books are also among his duties.
Having begun his tenure at Addiuva Enterprises in 2005, Mr. Tamayo was appointed as head of the global legal department. Over time, he advanced to chief legal counsel from 2006 to 2026 while simultaneously serving as a board member in various countries before joining the holding company’s board exclusively. Throughout his time at Addiuva Enterprises, he has played a pivotal role in navigating two major reorganizations within the group. These complex undertakings involved managing a network of companies and shareholders across multiple jurisdictions. Mr. Tamayo regards this work as his most notable professional achievement due to its complexity and positive impact on communities served by Addiuva Enterprises.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Tamayo led the legal department at Ebel International between 2002 and 2005. Ebel International is a multinational cosmetics company based in Colombia with annual revenues of approximately $500 million. This experience provided Mr. Tamayo with valuable insights into operating within a large corporation serving Latin America.
Mr. Tamayo’s professional journey began at Brigard Castro Attorneys in 1996, where he specialized in intellectual property and competition law. This foundational experience established his reputation as an expert in intellectual property, corporate governance, technology, artificial intelligence, data protection and management.
During his tenure at Brigard Castro Attorneys, Mr. Tamayo simultaneously began teaching at the Universidad Externado de Colombia in 1998 as a business law professor. He later taught in the same capacity at the Universidad Externado de Colombia in Bogotá. His academic roles allowed him to share his expertise in intellectual property, corporate governance and technology with future professionals.
Mr. Tamayo’s educational background has been instrumental in shaping his career trajectory. He earned a degree in law with a focus on commercial law from Universidad Externado de Colombia in Bogotá in 1995. Building upon this foundation, he completed a master’s degree in business law at the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá in 1997. These academic achievements have provided him with comprehensive knowledge essential for navigating complex legal frameworks within multinational organizations.
Further enhancing his qualifications, Mr. Tamayo completed coursework on family enterprises and wealth at the Columbia Business School at Columbia University in New York and studied corporate governance effectiveness through The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. These credentials have deepened his understanding of governance structures within family-owned businesses and maximized his efficacy as a board member.
Mr. Tamayo’s involvement with professional associations has been equally distinguished. He served as the secretary general and later as the president of the Colombian Intellectual Property Association from 2001 to 2004 and from 2006 to 2007, respectively. In these roles, he represented the interests of intellectual and industrial property lawyers during negotiations with government entities and international treaty discussions such as the TLC agreement on intellectual property rights. In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Mr. Tamayo maintains active civic engagement through support for organizations such as the Men’s Club of the Church and donations to the Archdiocese of Miami.
An accomplished author, Mr. Tamayo has made scholarly contributions, including articles published in the Journal of Intangible Property by the Externado University of Colombia Press and the Digital Information Society Magazine. He has also authored several articles for specialized books published by Universidad Externado de Colombia focusing on intellectual property, consumer protection and unfair competition law.
Throughout his career, Mr. Tamayo has demonstrated a collaborative approach by working closely with communities and employees across countries where Addiuva Enterprises operates call centers. Notably, he prioritizes hiring women who are raising children without partners to provide support for single-parent families. Recognizing these childcare challenges faced by working mothers, Mr. Tamayo established agreements with local governments to provide designated childcare facilities, enabling women to pursue careers while ensuring their children are cared for safely.
Among other initiatives to foster excellence among employees, Mr. Tamayo introduced awards for top performers that include financial support for further education at universities or schools within their respective countries. His vision, which extends beyond immediate business objectives, aims to create better educational opportunities for children in communities served by Addiuva Enterprises through ongoing initiatives that continue to evolve.
