Mr. Gallagher’s distinguished career in complex systems engineering, artificial intelligence (AI) and intelligent data infrastructure spans more than four decades. Since 2024, he has served as the founder and chief executive officer of Seven Bells Consulting in Boston, Massachusetts. In this capacity, he speaks at conferences, delivers keynote speeches, conducts technical presentations, and facilitates roundtables for customers and prospects globally. He also participates in panel discussions and provides solutions support to clients worldwide. Mr. Gallagher’s expertise has become widely acknowledged in the industry.
Before establishing Seven Bells Consulting, Mr. Gallagher worked as an executive consultant from 2017 to 2024. His role involved providing strategic guidance to organizations navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of data infrastructure and AI. Between 2014 and 2017, Mr. Gallagher excelled as the president of the cloud platform team at Dell Inc. in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In this role, he oversaw initiatives that advanced cloud technologies for enterprise clients.
Recruited from Dell Inc. in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, Mr. Gallagher devoted nearly 30 years to the organization in progressive roles. Hired as a project leader for midrange systems in 1985, he rose to manage midrange systems and advanced development from 1988 to 1993 before being named to the open storage group as a senior manager between 1994 and 1995. Over the next decade, he leveraged his expertise to become a vice president of engineering, then senior vice president and general manager. In 2009, Mr. Gallagher was promoted to president of the organization’s enterprise storage division, followed by his role as the president of the enterprise and midrange systems division from 2013 to 2014.
Mr. Gallagher’s tenure as the senior vice president and general manager at Dell Inc. was marked by significant contributions to the company’s growth strategy. After assuming major responsibilities in high-end technology following Moshe Yanai’s departure in 2000, he led a five-year plan beginning in 2009 that reversed projected declines in revenue and profit for EMC (now Dell Inc.). Under Mr. Gallagher’s leadership, the business achieved nearly 10% growth instead of a 3% decrease and gained two points of EBIT rather than losing two points. These results strengthened EMC’s internal structure and supported its acquisition strategy, ultimately enhancing its value ahead of its sale to Dell Inc.
Mr. Gallagher began his career with VS Systems at Wang Laboratories (now Getronics) in Lowell, Massachusetts. Hired in 1982, he gained foundational experience as a senior project engineer until 1985.
Mr. Gallagher’s academic background provided a strong foundation for his achievements. He earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical and electronics engineering at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, in 1982, followed by a Master of Science in computer engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1990.
Active in his professional community, Mr. Gallagher is affiliated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, underscoring his professional standing. Beyond his corporate accomplishments, he has made significant contributions through civic engagement and mentorship activities. He served on regional advisory boards for healthcare treatment centers with locations in New England and Florida, where he volunteered support as needed. He also coached youth football for many years, where he taught children aged seven to 13 about teamwork, rules comprehension and spatial awareness.
Mr. Gallagher’s expertise is further evidenced by his portfolio of over 20 U.S. patents in data storage technology. Among his notable accomplishments have been the introduction of flash technology into commercial markets, leading high-impact projects that originated with government contracts and developing innovative solutions for enterprise storage. Recognition for Mr. Gallagher’s impact included receiving the Presidential Award for ERP Transformation in 2001 and the Presidential Award for Cost Transformation in 2003 from EMC (now Dell Inc.).
Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Gallagher has demonstrated exceptional technical acumen and leadership ability. Recognized as one of EMC’s co-founders, he was instrumental in developing products for the IBM mid-range market during the early 1990s. These efforts notably generated key revenue streams enabling further technological advancements within the company.
