Under Mr. Montgomery’s leadership, the business has not only improved but also attracted attention from major manufacturers seeking representation across Texas and the U.S. He credits much of this progress to collaboration with talented chefs in San Antonio and an unwavering focus on teamwork.
Mr. Montgomery’s transition into food brokerage was driven by a desire for improved work-life balance after years as a chef in San Antonio’s demanding culinary scene. Familiarity with the previous owner through years of professional interaction made the move both timely and meaningful. The shift allowed Mr. Montgomery to spend more quality time with his family while maintaining his passion for the culinary arts.
Academically, Mr. Montgomery holds an Associate of Applied Science in culinary arts from St. Philip’s College since 1995. He further enhanced his credentials with certifications in cranberry science and development as well as mixology from Johnson & Wales University in 2008. He was also named San Antonio Chef of the Year by the Texas Chefs Association. Mr. Montgomery attributes much of his success to the unwavering support of his wife and family, a foundation that enabled him to navigate challenging transitions throughout his career. Their encouragement was especially vital when moving from a chef’s schedule to food brokerage operations focused on better work-life balance.
Mr. Montgomery’s approach has been deeply influenced by lessons learned early in his career, particularly the importance of leading with humility while remaining actively engaged with his team. He ensures that training kitchens are available for collaborative work and prefers hands-on involvement over delegation alone. This philosophy extends to Lakeland Marketing’s unique structure, as each market operates independently but collaborates as part of a collective group rather than a traditional franchise model.
In preparation for future success, Mr. Montgomery aims to continue expanding Lakeland Marketing before eventually selling the business and pursuing new ventures aligned with his personal interests. He is also currently working on a cookbook that will reflect both his professional experience and passion for culinary creativity. Throughout all endeavors, Mr. Montgomery seeks to be remembered as an honest, honorable, and dependable individual whose legacy is defined by integrity and service within both business and family life.
