Andrew B. Blackman, CPA/PFS/CFF, CFP®, Senior Partner at Schulman Lobel LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in financial services.
With decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Blackman has excelled at Schulman Lobel LLP as a senior partner since 2013 as well as a certified public accountant, a certified financial planner, a personal financial specialist, and a certified financial forensics analyst since 1992. In this position, he operates as a business manager for artists in the performing arts or similar creative industries from around the world, often collaborating alongside their agents, managers, and attorneys. In addition to helping these artists utilize appropriate tax strategies, Mr. Blackman evaluates his client’s personal and business risks, advises on property and casualty insurance coverage, and communicates with estate planning attorneys and other investment advisors to coordinate effective estate and investment plans.
Prior to his tenure as a senior partner, Mr. Blackman was active with the aforementioned CPA firm, formerly known as Shapiro Lobel LLP, as a partner between 1992 and 2012. During this time, he worked as the founder and first president of All-Star Financial Group LLC from 1994 to 1997. Between 1984 and 1990, he found success as a certified public accountant, a certified financial planner, a personal financial specialist, a partner, and a co-founder of the Freedman & Blackman Accountancy Corporation. He briefly served as a tax manager for Gelfand, Rennert & Feldman from 1979 to 1980. Mr. Blackman began his career as a senior accountant with Touche Ross & Co. between 1975 and 1979.
To support his professional ambitions, Mr. Blackman pursued an education at Boston University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in accounting, magna cum laude, from the Questrom School of Business in 1975. He concluded his formal studies at Farleigh Dickinson University in 1979, graduating with a Master of Business Administration in taxation, with honors. In addition to these academic accomplishments, Mr. Blackman obtained his certifications as a financial planner from the Certified Financial Planners Board, in financial forensics from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, as a personal financial specialist from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and as a certified public accountant from the New York State Department of Education, the California Department of Consumer Affairs, and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.
Beyond his primary responsibilities, Mr. Blackman has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his immediate circles. As a co-author, he notably contributed to “The Guide to Planning for Performing and Creative Artists,” part of The PFP Library series, for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1997. He was likewise appointed as the editor for “AICPA Continuing Professional Education Tax Considerations for Professional Athletes and Entertainers.” Highlighted as a featured guest on a number of broadcast and cable television programs, Mr. Blackman has further offered his wealth of knowledge to dozens of financial publications as a contributing author.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Blackman remains associated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. With the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, he was recruited as the chairman of the Entertainment and Sports Committee in 2002 and the Personal Financial Planning Committee in 2009 and held these same committee chairman positions as well with the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Moreover, he was involved with the National Football League Players Association as a registered player financial advisor in 2002. Mr. Blackman was additionally affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as a member of the Specialization Accreditation Board in 1989, a member of the Personal Financial Planning Executive Committee from 1992 to 1995, and the chairman of the Personal Financial Specialist Committee from 1995 to 1998.
As a testament to his impressive undertakings, Mr. Blackman has accrued several accolades throughout his career. Selected for inclusion in the Consumers’ Research Council of America’s Guide to America’s Best Financial Planners, he was previously recognized among the 50 Names to Know in Financial Planning by Accounting Today. He was also celebrated among the Best Financial Advisors by Worth between 1996 and 1998. Furthermore, Mr. Blackman was honored as one of Variety’s Business Managers Elite of 2023 and a Distinguished Faculty Member at the Entertainment and Sports Committee Conferences by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
A respected figure among his colleagues and peers, Mr. Blackman has attributed his success to his steadfast integrity and work ethic, his ability to remain current in his field, and his unique creative process. He has been driven by his passion for business and his admiration for those with creative talent as well as his desire to help artists navigate complex tax and business laws so they can thrive in their respective disciplines. Though he is esteemed for his moral code, having respectfully ended partnerships with clients whose values and goals that do not align with his own. He is particularly proud of his efforts as a father, having raised two children who have flourished in their own industries.
Mr. Blackman places great importance on finding the right fit with his clients, and if he feels that a client is no longer aligned with his values or goals, he respectfully ends the partnership. This approach has helped him build a reputation for integrity and professionalism. Having recently become a grandfather, Mr. Blackman is searching for his next challenges, but hopes to dedicate more time to his growing family in the near future.
