Reflecting on his path, his most notable achievement is the strong relationships he has cultivated throughout his career, earning him tremendous respect within the construction industry. As his career progressed, he became widely respected for his ability to manage complex projects, particularly during his tenure building data centers with his previous employer.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. McWhorter was named ENR 2020 Texas & Louisiana Contractor of the Year by Engineering News-Record and has been honored as Builder of the Month on multiple occasions. He attributes his success to the belief that while the exact destination may not always be clear, having faith in the creation of a path can lead to opportunities. Reflecting on his journey, he notes that when he graduated high school, data centers were not yet an established industry. His decision to enroll in college was pivotal, even though he could not have predicted the technological advances that would define the subsequent decades. He emphasizes the importance of embracing life’s unexpected challenges, as they often provide valuable lessons, even during difficult times. He also highlights the critical role of consistent communication, referring to it as “following up and following through,” a principle that has guided his professional relationships.
Looking to the future, Mr. McWhorter aspires to advance within his organization and become the first vice president of quality control services. He is committed to developing the team members who report to him, firmly believing that a strong leader prioritizes cultivating potential successors to ensure the organization’s future success. In his personal life, he remains dedicated to supporting his wife and daughters in their aspirations. He emphasizes to them that while the paths they choose may present challenges, perseverance is key to overcoming obstacles. With their long-term educational commitments ahead, he advises focusing diligently on building strong foundations in their chosen fields after graduation, ensuring they are well-prepared for future opportunities.
