Mr. Honka is an experienced accounting professional whose career spans over 30 years. Since 2024, he has excelled as the co-founder, chief financial officer, and board member of GMI Capital, working in a remote capacity. Leveraging his former success, he garnered tremendous experience with Ironman Limited in 2024 as a senior advisor of compliance and financial operations, where he focused on financial and compliance matters. Previously, Mr. Honka spent over five years with Weaver, an accounting firm based in Houston, beginning in 2017. He also excelled with various other leading organizations, including a mid-sized certified public accounting firm, as both a partner and financial services practice leader from 2015 to 2017.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Honka held the title of director at EisnerAmper LLP between 2008 and 2010 and at McGladrey & Pullen from 2004 to 2008. He also worked as a senior manager for GGK, a music company in Berlin, London and New York, from 2004 to 2006. Earlier, he found success with the big four multinational professional services firms Ernst & Young between 2000 and 2001 and PriceWaterhouseCoopers from 1997 to 2000 in management roles and at KPMG as a supervising senior, dating back to 1995.
In preparation for his future, Mr. Honka graduated from Herkimer High School in 1987. He then received an Associate of Applied Science in accounting from Herkimer County Community College in 1989. Additionally, he garnered a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Utica College of Syracuse University in 1991. Highly qualified in his field, Mr. Honka holds credentials as a certified public accountant.
Mr. Honka noted that his interests and strengths led him to pursue accounting. Developing a passion for the field while in high school, he subsequently began taking courses in college, where he fostered a deep appreciation for the precision and logic inherent in the field. Mr. Honka’s extensive background in client services, financial accounting, Securities Exchange Commission filings, financial reporting and other areas of the industry has been instrumental in his distinguished tenure.
Besides his professional credentials, Mr. Honka has been affiliated with several leading industry-related organizations, such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. As a seasoned expert in his field, he was invited to several professional conferences, including the Commodity Trading Alumni Association Expo, where he was asked to speak. He has also presented before numerous groups of emerging managers and startup companies.
