Title: Financial Improvement and Audit Remediation and Property Section Head (Retired)
Company: Strategic Systems Programs
Location: Washington, D.C., United States
Perry G. Trueax, retired financial improvement and audit remediation (FIAR) and property section head at Strategic Systems Programs, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in finance, military and international affairs.
Before embarking on a career in accounting that would last nearly 45 years, Mr. Trueax grew up on a dairy farm. His early life was focused on school and working seven days a week on the farm to help his family, which instilled a strong work ethic that he would carry with him for the rest of his life.
After graduating from high school in 1975, Mr. Trueax briefly attended college before deciding that wasn’t the right path for him at that moment. He subsequently moved to Washington, D.C., in 1979 and began working for Best Western International Inc. As an employee in the hotel sector, Mr. Trueax demonstrated a great capacity for growth and responsibility. He was invited to join a management training program, which saw him performing a wide range of tasks across the hotel, including auditing, bartending, doing laundry, making beds and working at the front desk.
Deciding to embrace his skill in accounting, Mr. Trueax joined the World Wildlife Fund as an accounting supervisor in 1981. He notes that when he started in this field, computers were not yet used, so he had to perform all his tasks manually, including typing checks on a typewriter, processing purchase orders and recording everything in a physical spreadsheet. As he continued to establish himself, Mr. Trueax contributed as a business analyst at Mead Data Central, accounting supervisor at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society, director of finance and technology at Conservation International and senior consultant at Braun Consulting. In 2002, he began gaining experience working with the government as a consultant for Visionary Integration Professionals, where he worked on projects with the U.S. Department of Education.
From 2003 forward, Mr. Trueax primarily worked on government contracts, including tenures as a systems accountant at the Military Sealift Command, an accountant with the Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid division and a systems accountant with the Federal Aviation Administration. He began his ultimate role in 2009, serving as the FIAR and property section head for Strategic Systems Programs, the division of the U.S. Navy that oversees research and development of new technology.
With a position representing collaboration between the military and private industry, Mr. Trueax was tasked with creating a completely new unit. He developed processes and procedures from scratch and handpicked each addition to his team. Mr. Trueax faced many challenges in coordinating financial audits with engineers who often resisted those efforts. However, he learned to navigate this complex environment thoughtfully through communication, flexibility and determination.
Mr. Trueax was also lauded for achieving success despite his age. He was in his 60s during his time at Strategic Systems Programs, while most of the employees he worked with were in their 20s or 30s. Nevertheless, colleagues regularly expressed astonishment at Mr. Trueax’s energy, work ethic and commitment to treating others with respect. After more than 15 years, with Strategic Systems Programs, he retired in 2025, doing everything possible to make sure his teammates were prepared for continuing on without him.
Now dedicated to making the most of his retirement years, Mr. Trueax hopes to travel and take cruises to parts of the world that he has not yet visited. He remembers his work years fondly. Mr. Trueax expresses deep gratitude for the accolades he received from colleagues during his retirement ceremony. Although he feels that he was only ever doing his job, he was moved to learn just how impactful his guidance and supervision had been to so many people.
