A leader in the construction industry, Mr. Young founded DCMC Construction LLC in 2012, specializing in state and federal government contracts with offices in Albany and Brooklyn, New York, and an expansion into Miami, Florida, is currently underway. DCMC Construction LLC is notably recognized as a union company, which results in prevailing wages for all employees.
Mr. Young and his team bid on numerous multimillion-dollar projects, and once awarded contracts, he brings in skilled union labor to carry out the work. Under his leadership, the company has undertaken significant projects, such as a new 911 call center for the Albany County Sheriff’s Office and work at Albany High School. Mr. Young’s commitment to building relationships and treating employees with respect has been pivotal to his success.
Mr. Young’s career began in masonry as a union member in New York. He joined the bridge union division, where he spent five years working on bridges across the tri-state area. In 1994, he advanced to the role of foreman and subsequently became a superintendent. Mr. Young’s journey continued with National Grid from 1996 to 2000, where he provided electrical services. Returning to the union, he completed a five-year apprenticeship program and progressed to project manager by 2005. During this period, he participated in a pilot program for minority business enterprises initiated by Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York. Excelling in this program, Mr. Young graduated among the top three out of more than 670 participants.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Young went on to earn a high school diploma. Following high school, he became educated in the complexities of structural steel, engineering, architecture and design. These areas of study have been instrumental in his professional achievements.
As a leader in his industry, Mr. Young has served as a mentor and guest speaker at various unions and educational institutions, including the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and New York University. Beyond his professional endeavors, he is actively involved in civic activities as a volunteer with the Equinox Program, where he gives back to the homeless community, and the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
As a member of the Minority Business Enterprise, Mr. Young has witnessed substantial growth in Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprise contracts from 5% to over 30%. However, he believes there is room for further improvement. Mr. Young’s drive, determination and dedication, qualities he refers to as “DDD, “have been central to his accomplishments as an entrepreneur, as well as his faith for serving as a guiding principle throughout his life, and his wife and children for serving as constant inspiration.
From 2019 to 2025, Mr. Young was recognized as a No. 1 Minority Contractor. He was also featured in TD Bank Portfolio on growing his business and expanding nationally. Additionally, Mr. Young was featured in several articles, including Albany Business Review and Kings and Queens Night.
Looking ahead, Mr. Young plans to venture into real estate development and explore projects beyond state lines as a prime contractor for bridge projects. His legacy is one of faith and self-belief coupled with humility, a testament to what can be achieved through perseverance and commitment to one’s dreams.
